Job Duration:
Full-Time One year position (Renewable)
Duty Station:
Yendi, Mion and Gusheigu, Ghana
Working within the framework of TREE AID Programme Strategy, the River Trees Field Assistants
will be responsible for tasks as follows:
Main Tasks
1. Guide and Support communities on the implementation of the project
Lead on TREE AID’s initiatives at organizing communities for joint actions in the implementation of the project to time and budget.
Coordinate efforts at ensuring the continuous availability of resources upon which rural enterprises rely on for their sustainability while contributing to biodiversity conservation.
Facilitate communities to come out with natural resources management plans including bye laws and facilitate implementation of the bye-laws.
Facilitate or organize communities into livelihood groups based on Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs)
Facilitate processes of delineation of project intervention areas
Facilitate capacity building of communities or livelihood groups to embrace NTFPs as business and trade and facilitate value addition and sales
Take steps to promote food, nutrition and income security using best practices
Work closely with your line manager to develop and maintain a GIS supported platform for keeping a database of key project outcomes and producing suitable products for outreach.
Facilitate the setting up of tree mensuration approaches/strategies that will inform the project success.
2. Support the development of TREE AID Ghana’s wider programme
Contribute to increasing our impact leading to new river trees restoration projects in Ghana.
Contribute to the identification and formulation of activities to enhance Community resilience to climate variability through improved local adaptation knowledge in Ghana.
Liaise with local partners on TREE AID’s natural resources management for synergies building to avoid duplication of efforts.
Support arrangements for and co-facilitating programme training workshops.
3. Project Monitoring & Evaluation and reporting
Increase key stakeholders consultations and involvement in the project delivery, monitoring and evaluation and documentation of project results.
Initiate steps in project planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and learning Framework.
Timely preparation of field reports.
Receiving and reviewing communities progress reports and action plans
Field monitoring to verify project activities and discuss emerging issues and problems with stakeholders in the field.
Review and documentation adoption of knowledge and skills
Support to conduct RHOMIS and other biodiversity surveys
4. Other
Prepare for and participate in regular one-to-one progress and planning meetings with the GCPM, and other staff meetings as appropriate
Where appropriate, represent TREE AID Ghana at meetings and workshops relevant to TREE AID’s work as agreed with your line manager.
Carry out other tasks as agreed with management.
Report any issues regarding project delivery, safeguarding, fraud and bribery to TREE AID Ghana office
5. Key Success Factors for this Post
Raising the profile of TA’s River Trees Project(s) with external audiences and donors
Achieving agreed job targets.
Timely provision of projects reports and other information requested
Evidence of effective monitoring & evaluation systems development and adherence and consistency between these and TREE AID Monitoring & Evaluation systems.
Good communication and relations with all staff, in Ghana, the UK and West Africa as well as with TREE AID partners and other TREE AID contacts.
Qualification and experience required for the job position
HND or Degree Graduate in relevant subject (natural resource management, Agriculture).
Must have at least three (3) years working experience in a similar position
Must share the vision of TREE AID.
Ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders
Excellent verbal communication and written skills.
Ability to balance a number of conflicting demands.
Must be computer literate – good in excel, word, PowerPoint.
Must be confident, hard working, able to work under pressure, and time conscious.
Ability to work independently, self initiative and with good teamwork and rapport
Ability to meet deadlines and achieve targets including extensive travel in the field.
Must have working knowledge in one of the languages spoken in northern Ghana especially Dagbani and Likpakpaln. Ability to speak French is an added advantage.
